Spiderspun is a web site created in 2000 by an Alpha-1 patient (Noreen), who links the blogs from other Alphas (via their permission or request) for the purpose of raising awareness and support about their genetic condition, Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

My Bio

I am on LTD as a Foreman from the Oilfield. I was diagnosed with Alpha-1 in January 1993. I am lung-affected with the ZZ phenotype. I had a double lung transplant in June 2004. I enjoy classic cars, classic rock and roll, and volunteering my time for the transplant community. My heritage is both Swedish and Heinz 57 (German).

    I recieved the gift of life on June 12, 2004, and havn't looked back. I feel that God blessed me with a nearly perfect DNA match to my own body, and I am blessed to be on a very low dosage of immunosurpressed meds. I will always encourage everyone I meet to "go for it" in regards to having a lung ransplant. The options of faluire are so slim now days, that a long successful life is very doable.     Thanks for the compliment, I really don't feel like any ones' "Hero" LOL I was diagnosted in Jan of '93, and my first Prolastine nurse, in Nov. 94 opened my eyes, on how to be aggresive & tenatious dealing with Alpha 1, doctors and nurses.
    Now of course having a 2nd chance is probably one of the high points in my life. Right along with getting saved, birth of my 2 kids, having a great wife. etc. I really have a gift for presenting Alpha 1, organ sharring, promoting life and having it more abundantly. I am president of our local chapter of the AACA (antigue automoblie club of america) so much of my time is spent helping orgainizations set up claasic car event.
